Prof. George Magoha (Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary) has praised Nyamira County’s school principals for completing 100 per cent of the construction of Competence Based Curriculum classrooms (CBC) ready to host junior secondary students next fall.

Friday’s commendation was made by the CS as he laid the foundation stone for a modern-day dormitory at St. Kizito Nyansiongo boys High School in Nyamira. This dormitory will accommodate the increasing number of students who have converted the dining hall into a dormitory.

“CBC system is here to stay and as the Cabinet Secretary for Education, I will ensure that the president’s directive is implemented to the letter. Those politicking that it will die immediately new government comes into power in August are mistaken because the government has invested heavily to capacity build teachers and construct classrooms in ensuring smooth transition of this new curriculum.” Magoha stated.

“There is nothing perfect, all we do is our best and those who will be in government come September will have the capacity to improve from what we will have started all for the best interest of our children because they are our future heritage which we cannot afford to spoil this early,” Said the CS.

The CS assured that he is working with colleagues to ensure that the learners of Bungoma, a country with a low completion rate in CBC classrooms at 97%, have a safe learning environment when they start their junior secondary school.

Prof. Magoha encouraged the school principals present at the function to continue to ensure that all children in their care receive the best education and are disciplined appropriately. This will help them to become responsible citizens once they leave school.

He encouraged parents to talk to their children and correct their bad behavior. He also suggested that parents take the time to communicate with their children about their financial situation and how they can help them.

“Some parents have the audacity of taking teachers to court when their children have been disciplined in school but I want to clarify that for any child who cannot comply with school regulations, teacher have the powers to discipline as stipulated by the ministry of education because condoning indiscipline in learning institutions is guaranteeing failure in that particular school,” Mogha warned.

“The best a professional can do is to empower the young ones so that they can readily take our positions when we have exited to be assured of continuity and prosperity of our country and beyond. Those who do it already encourage others to do it. Only then can they be of importance both in our country and the entire globe,” Matiang’i challenged professionals.
