AMERICA/COLOMBIA – June 24, Colombia renews the consecration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – The Colombian Catholic Church has invited to participate in the Eucharistic Celebration on Friday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m., in the Cathedral of Bogota, which will be presided over by Monsignor Luis José Rueda Aparicio, Archbishop of Bogota and President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, in which the Consecration of families, communities and the entire nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be renewed. The Holy Mass will also be broadcast by the Archdiocese of Bogota and the Episcopal Conference of Colombia on digital channels.
The Department of Liturgy of the Permanent Secretariat of the Colombian Episcopate, (SPEC), has prepared a liturgical subvention divided into five sections: Guide to the celebration of the Eucharist. This is in order to allow greater participation in this solemnity that celebrates the mystery of God’s love and mercy. Prayer of Consecration to Colombia to the Sacred Heart and Prayer of the Faithful. Rite for the Consecration in the Family to the Sacred Heart Jesus of the Country. Act of Consecration of Colombia for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Litany of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus. A note from the Episcopal Conference, sent to Agenzia Fides, recalls that the first Consecration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to Colombia was performed in 1902 at the initiative of the Archbishop of Bogota Monsignor Bernardo Herrera Restrepo. This was in an appeal to end the “War of the Thousand Days”, a conflict that broke out in 1899. After three years of bloody and destructive warfare, the country’s situation deteriorated and threatened to become a national disaster. The then Archbishop of Bogotá asked the Head of State, José Manuel Marroquín, to go to the Sacred Heart of Jesus to unite Colombians. The first stone of the Church of the National Vow was laid and the Republic of Colombia was consecrated at the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 22, 1902. Five months later, the Treaty of Wisconsin, which ended the war, was signed. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 23/6/2022)
