Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has described Morocco as a “strategic and reliable neighbor”, underlining the “transversal” dimension of cooperation between the two countries.

“Morocco is an absolutely strategic, reliable neighbor, with which we share common interests,” Grande-Marlaska told reporters on Friday after visiting the construction works of the new headquarters of the command of the Civil Guard in Zaragoza.

The Spanish minister noted that relations with Morocco are “important”, as they concern various areas such as security, economy and culture.

The current state of cooperation between the two countries is “absolutely satisfactory”, he assured, noting that the organization of the Marhaba Operation constitutes “good proof of this effective coordination between the two countries”.

Grande-Marlaska was happy to share the results of Wednesday’s Madrid working meeting with Abdelouafi Leftit, his Moroccan counterpart.

The two officials stressed the strategic importance relations between the Kingdoms. These relations are based on the ties between King Felipe VI (King Mohammed VI) and King Felipe VI. A joint statement was published after the meeting.

Grande-Marlaska and Laftit welcomed, in that regard, the exemplary collaboration between the services of the departments. This translated into a new unprecedented dynamic in relations between the countries, based upon transparency, mutual respect and reciprocal trust.
