Tsumeb’s two unidentified suspects kidnapped a baby boy three months old on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 19:00.

According to Elifas Kuwinga, chief inspector of police, a weekend crime report shows that an 18-year old mother and her baby traveled from Onheleiwa village, Ohangwena, to Tsumeb after she received a call telling her she had a job for domestic workers.

She arrived at the scene to find two suspects, a male and female.

The woman introduced herself only as “Trespo” at Tsumeb’s Engen station. She and her friend then took the victim to United Nations Park.

“However, upon arrival at the park with a taxi, immediately the female suspect gave the victim N$400 to go and buy food at a nearby shop with the male suspect, while the female suspect remained with the baby,” Kuwinga said.

He stated that after shopping, the male suspect refused go back with the victim. The taxi driver informed her to drop her off at Otjikoto Secondary School, where she would supposedly meet her baby.

“The victim could not find any one when she arrived there. She tried to call the female suspect but her phone was unreachable,” he said.

Kuwinga stated that members of her community took Kuwinga with them to the police station. Kuwinga was able to tell officers what had happened.

Police investigations continue.
