Walvis Bay pupil dies after cell phone robbery – The Namibian

Walvis Bay’s 17-year-old boy died Monday at Katutura State Hospital after being attacked by a group of people in the aftermath of an alleged cell phone theft.

Erastus Iikuyu, police deputy commissioner, said that Iikaha Andreas Schikongo and his friends allegedly stole a cell phone from a moving vehicle near Wizy Man Restaurant and Carwash At Kuisebmond and then ran away.

A group of people chased Shikongo’s friends and beat him severely.

The incident occurred at around 03h30 on Sunday.

Shikongo was initially taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital. He was then transferred to Katutura State Hospital in critical condition.

Shikongo was a Grade 10 student at Tutaleni High school at Kuisebmond.

His family members were informed about his death.

Despite police investigations continuing, no arrests have been made.
