Regional forum on sustainable development kicks off in Kigali

President Paul Kagame preside over the official opening at the Kigali Convention Centre of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development.

The forum, happening for the eighth time will be held under the theme ‘Bulding forward better: A green, inclusive and resilient Africa poised to achieve the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.’

 

ARFSD-8 was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa and the Government of Rwanda, in collaboration with the African Union Commission of Africa (AUC), the African Development Bank of (AfDB), and other partners.

 

Many guests join President Kagame, including Ministers and senior officials as well as experts from different ministries.

 

A large audience also includes the business community and civil society.

Uniquely for Africa, the ARFSD Forum focuses only on global and continental sustainable development goals. 

According to a Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning statement, participants will conduct a follow-up and a review of the United Nations SDGs and African Union Agenda 2063. The two Agendas provide a synergistic framework to achieve inclusive and people-centered sustainable growth in the region.

ARFSD-8 will be focusing on five selected SDGs, Agenda 2063 goals and identify strategies and policies to build back from COVID-19. It will also scale up implementation in 2021-2030. 

During the meeting, participants will also deliberate and agree on Africa’s collective input to the 2022 meeting of HLPF to be held in New York in July 2022. 

This will be based on an outcome document from the Forum, consisting of Africa’s priorities and policy recommendations to accelerate the implementation of the two agendas.
