U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Michele Sison has reaffirmed Washington\u2019s steadfast support to the Moroccan autonomy plan offered for a lasting resolution of the Sahara issue, describing the plan as \u201cserious, credible and realistic\u201d.<\/p>\n
At a press briefing held Wednesday, after talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Borita, Mrs. Sison said that the United States still views Rabat’s autonomy proposal as credible, realistic, and serious.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Assistant Secretary stated that the priority of the United States was to support a credible process that leads to a lasting solution for the Sahara conflict.<\/p>\n
She said her talks with Bourita focused on continued U.S. support for UN Sahara Envoy Staffan De Mistura, MINURSO\u2019s peacekeeping efforts and the UN mission\u2019s importance in preserving the UN-led peace process.<\/p>\n
