After gaining maximum points in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership, AFRICAN Stars now has a seven point lead at the top.<\/b><\/p>\n
They beat Life Fighters 2:1 at Otjiwarongo’s Mokuti Stadium. Then they beat Julinho Sporting at Rundu 1-0 on Saturday to move clear of the chasing pack.<\/p>\n
Stars led Fighters by a very fortunate margin in the first half. Stars were led by Willy Stephanus, a midfielder, who scored a free kick that Fighters’ keeper missed, and rolled into an empty net. <\/p>\n
It was 2-0 ten minutes later when Manaze Salazar crossed from the wing. Fighters opened their account just before halftime, when Stars’ pressure led to an own goal by one their defenders. <\/p>\n
After the break, both teams were evenly weighed. Stars’ young midfielder Chulu Kamatuka won the game with a fantastic long-range strike that landed in the net. <\/p>\n
Stars struggled against Julinho on Sunday. But Stephanus broke the deadlock with 15 minutes left and Stars won another valuable win on their road trip. <\/p>\n
These victories have now earned them 25 points from nine matches – seven more than Blue Waters or Fighters. <\/p>\n
After their defeat to Stars, fighters were able to regroup to win a 6-1 victory at Otjiwarongo on Saturday. <\/p>\n
The sides were equal in weight at the beginning, before Eliakim Jackson, Fighters’ striker, broke the deadlock halfway through the first. <\/p>\n
After a tough half-time team talk by coach Agnus Elmu, the fighters picked up their pace and scored five more goals in the second period. Brazilians also scored a consolation goal late in the game. <\/p>\n
Other goals achieved by fighters included Erwin Tjiuija (Lazarus Naruseb), If Musinga and Shafishuna Nagula. Jackson also scored a second goal. <\/p>\n
Fighters moved up to second position with 18 points, and Blue Waters joined them in second place with four points at Walvis Bay’s Jan Wilkens Stadium. <\/p>\n
They drew 1-1 with Orlando Pirates 1-0 on Saturday, with Steven Damaseb scoring their goal. On Sunday, they beat Tigers 2 to 1. Goals by Junior Petrus (and Philip Kavari) won them 2-1. <\/p>\n
Okahandja United finished fourth on the log, with 16 points, after a 2-0 victory against Citizens at Nau Aib Stadion on Sunday. They also have a match on the leaders, having lost their match against Civics on Sunday due to rain at the beginning of the second period. The teams were tied at 1-1 at that stage. <\/p>\n
Mighty Gunners had another successful weekend, picking four points on the road to move up into fifth place on 15 points. <\/p>\n
They beat Citizens 1-0 at Nau-Aib Stadium on Saturday, while Civics were held to a 1-1 draw at Khomasdal Stadium Sunday. <\/p>\n
Civics took the lead with a Quinton Khuruseb penalty in the first period, but Gunners won strongly and were able to equalize through Moses Jindji just five minutes before the end. <\/p>\n
Young African had a great weekend after they won 1-0 against Unam on Saturday and 2-1 against Tura Magic on Sunday. <\/p>\n
Other results: Eleven Arrows and Tigers were tied 0-0 on Saturday, while Pirates beat Arrows by 2-0 Sunday. Black Africa also collected two draws against Tura Magic (2-2) and Unam (0-1). <\/p>\n
BA looked like they were on the verge of victory against Tura Magic, leading 2-0 after goals from Lleyton Goagoseb and Derl Goagoseb. But Tura came back strong with goals by Nicodemus Haikali and Nehemia Ndengu to take a share.<\/p>\n
