{"id":68829,"date":"2022-11-24T15:28:34","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T15:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africannewspaper.net\/2022\/11\/24\/luanda-mini-summit-imposes-ceasefire-kenya-news-agency\/"},"modified":"2022-11-24T15:28:42","modified_gmt":"2022-11-24T15:28:42","slug":"luanda-mini-summit-imposes-ceasefire-kenya-news-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africannewspaper.net\/2022\/11\/24\/luanda-mini-summit-imposes-ceasefire-kenya-news-agency\/","title":{"rendered":"Luanda mini-summit imposes ceasefire \u2013 Kenya News Agency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p>President Jo\u00e3o Lourenco, the African Union (AU)-appointed\u00a0mediator for dialogue between the DRC and Rwanda,\u00a0convened a mini-summit on peace and security in the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Luanda, November 23, 2022 whose resolution was for a ceasefire in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Present at the meeting were Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, DRC President F\u00e9lix Tshisekedi, the Rwandan Foreign Minister representing Rwanda President Paul Kagame, and the Facilitator of the Nairobi Process, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n<p>After more than six hours spent in closed-door discussions, the meeting concluded with a cease-fire for the M23 terrorist group. It will be effective Friday, November 25, 20, 22 at 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>According to an official Communiqu\u00e9, the agreement also requires the M23 to withdraw from occupied areas in the DRC as of November 27.<\/p>\n<p>The five participants to the mini-summit, which included three current Heads, agreed to a timetable of binding steps to restore peace and security in Eastern DRC.
