According to Ryad Mezzour, the industry minister, Morocco will soon unveil the first petrol-powered car that is 100% made in Morocco. This will build on an existing network with suppliers at an affordable price.

Quoted by l’Economist daily, Mezzour said the car, NEO, will be marketed at a competitive price of 170,000 dirhams and that it will find its first customers in the public administrations as well as the urban youth.

Morocco is home to a large number of automotive suppliers. There are 700,000 units at the Renault and Peugeot factories in Tangier (each) respectively.

However, the goal is to increase this export capacity to 1,000,000 cars in 2026 as producers from Morocco seek greater market share in Europe and elsewhere.

The country currently has 10,000 automotive industry engineers, and plans to increase this number to 50,000.

It also prepares the sector for the future by increasing the low-carbon footprint and encouraging the industry to increase production of electric cars from 40,000 to 100,000.
