Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu the Executive Secretary at IGAD condemns this week’s attack against Djibouti troops by an armed band that resulted in the deaths of several soldiers. \u201cThe attack on the Tadjourah Regiment of the Djibouti army at Garabistan on the evening of October 6, 2022, has killed seven soldiers and injured four, according to the information from Djibouti Government.<\/p>\n
The Executive Secretary IGAD \u201ccondemns in the strongest terms possible the criminal and cowardly attack on the Tadjourah Regiment of the Djibouti army at Garabistan on the evening of October 6, 2022, that killed seven soldiers and injured four.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement, IGAD stated that Dr. Workneh declared that Djibouti was an oasis of peace and played an important role in promoting peaceful coexistence within the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Executive Secretary conveys his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Djibouti and the families of the officers who were killed. He also wished for a speedy recovery of those who were injured and hoped that the 6 missing soldiers would be found soon. He further added that those who committed this criminal act should be made to face justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to media reports, the armed attack is being conducted by Afar ethnic rebels known as FRUD Front. The group reportedly took over a Djiboutian Army camp in Garabti-san in Balho, bordering Ethiopia on Friday.<\/p>\n
In its statement FRUD stated that \u201cits latest attack was in response to the provocations and arrests that the residents near the camp were subjected to, in addition to their armed attack on the front\u2019s followers\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
