{"id":52476,"date":"2022-08-24T19:30:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T19:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africannewspaper.net\/2022\/08\/24\/national-library-establishes-outreach-programme-for-vulnerable-children-kenya-news-agency\/"},"modified":"2022-08-24T19:31:03","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T19:31:03","slug":"national-library-establishes-outreach-programme-for-vulnerable-children-kenya-news-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africannewspaper.net\/2022\/08\/24\/national-library-establishes-outreach-programme-for-vulnerable-children-kenya-news-agency\/","title":{"rendered":"National Library establishes outreach programme for vulnerable children \u2013 Kenya News Agency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p>Kenya National Library\u00a0Meru Branch\u00a0has\u00a0kicked off a\u00a0program\u00a0of\u00a0visiting the street children and those in children\u2019s homes\u00a0with the aim of\u00a0improving their literacy skills.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to KNA yesterday, the library\u2019s head\u00a0of\u00a0ICT department\u00a0Mr\u00a0Isaiah Lameck said the outreach program, which is conducted on Thursdays,\u00a0is meant to transform street children and encourage those in children\u2019s homes\u00a0to feel part of the society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe usually visit those in the streets and those in the children\u2019s homes like Ripples International School to transform their lives and encourage them\u00a0considering that they are less privileged,\u201d said Lameck.<\/p>\n<p>He said during the visits they usually discuss various issues concerning their education\u00a0and life skills and\u00a0donate books to the children.<\/p>\n<p>Lameck observed that their efforts have paid off as most of the children from the streets have changed and returned to school.<\/p>\n<p>He said that they were prepared to continue the programme to ensure that literacy and hope are high in these groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy with the response to this programme and we are ready to continue with the same to ensure we reach all such children in the county,\u201d Lameck said.<\/p>\n<p>He also encouraged students and other scholars to make use the facility in order to benefit from their academic studies. \u201cWe have many resources here in terms of reading materials but very few people come here to access them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that there are other branches in Gatimbi and Mikumbune (Imenti Central), as well as Timau in Buuri, where researchers and learners can access books at a minimal fee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faith Mwendwa &#038; Dickson Mwiti<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenyanews.go.ke\/national-library-establishes-outreach-programme-for-vulnerable-children\/\">kenyanews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenya National Library\u00a0Meru Branch\u00a0has\u00a0kicked off a\u00a0program\u00a0of\u00a0visiting the street children and those in children\u2019s homes\u00a0with the aim of\u00a0improving their literacy skills.
