This is designed to help Sudanese parties agree on a way out the current political crisis, and agree on a sustainable pathway towards democracy, peace, and prosperity. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UNITAMS was established in 2020 by Security Council Resolution (2020) in response of requests from the Sudanese leadership to support the democratic transition to Sudan. Since the 25 October military coup, the country has been through major setbacks.\u00a0The violence against peaceful protestors only served to increase the distrust among all political parties.\u00a0SRSG Volker Perthes is\u00a0deeply concerned that the current political impasse may slide the country further into instability and squander the important political, social and economic gains made since the Revolution.\u00a0All attempts to reverse the current course of the transformation have failed to meet the aspirations and expectations of the Sudanese people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is time for an end to violence and to enter into a constructive dialogue. This process will be inclusive. All key civilian and military stakeholders, including armed movements, political parties, civil society, women\u2019s groups, and resistance committees will be invited to participate in the UN-facilitated political process. Women played an important role in the revolution as well as the transition.
