This information was provided by the United Christian Forum (UCF), an ecumenical organization that monitors violence cases with a free telephone number. Catholic A.C. Michael (president of UCF) says that &#8220;this year, looking at data, there have been more than one incident a days.&#8221; He recalls that 2021 was described as &#8220;the most violent years for Christians&#8221;, with 505 incidents across the country. Uttar Pradesh was the most violent state in 2022 with 48 incidents. With 44 incidents, it is closely followed by Chhattisgarh. Incidents include sexual violence and intimidation, threats, social isolation, vandalism, desecration and destruction of religious sites, disruption of prayer services, and social ostracism. Most of these incidents go unreported because of the brutality of some people and the arbitrarily closing of worship rooms or chapels. UCF has reported two incidents of social boycotting and assault against Christian believers in Chhattisgarh. Both occurred in Bastar district. The first incident saw a 65-year old Christian woman and her son being beaten and threatened by the Panchayat (village court) with social boycott if they refused to renounce the faith. In the other instance, a whole Christian family from the same district was excluded and denied access services like water and electricity. Another incident occurred in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on May 31st. A Protestant pastor was leading a prayer service when a mob stormed the chapel and beat him. They claimed he was trying to convert the people. <br \/>\nMichael, a former member the Delhi Minorities Commission, says that &#8220;the UCF toll-free phone number helps people who have been targeted for their faith by providing guidance and legal advice.&#8221; &#8220;It&#8217;s alarming that religious freedom is being brutally trampled by a few extremeists. We urge the authorities to seriously consider this matter. He concluded that peace-loving Indian Christians respect constitutional liberties and simply want to live their faith within the nation. India&#8217;s 1.3 billion inhabitants are made up of Christians, which makes them 2.3 percent. Eighty percent of them are Hindus.
