The French Development Agency has committed to strengthening its partnership with Morocco to transition to a low carbon economy that is based on clean industries, in line with international commitments made to reduce global warming-causing CO2 emissions.

To help Morocco achieve its decarbonization goals, the French agency chief Rémy Rioux signed Friday in Rabat a cooperation agreement with minister of energy transition & sustainable development Leila Benali.

Under this agreement, l’Agence Française de Development (AFD) will support Morocco’s action plan to cut carbon emissions in energy production, industry, agriculture, construction, transport, forests and waste processing.

This actionable plan, which is participatory and inclusive, features training and capacity-building workshops that are focused on energy efficiency, clean energy technologies, and renewable energy.

During his visit, the AFD Director met with several Moroccan officials, including Nadia Fettah Alaoui, minister of economy, finance and trade. The two sides discussed cooperation ties and the French agency’s financial backing to enable the Kingdom address social and economic challenges.
