The Moroccan Government decided at the cabinet’s weekly meeting Thursday to extend the state of health emergency until February 28, 2023, to continue to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of measures taken by public authorities to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Government Council reviewed and approved a draft decree that extended the state of emergency in the entire national territory, as presented by Abdelouafi Laftit (Minister of Interior), and was adopted.

The state of emergency, which has been in effect since March 2020, was due to expire on January 31st. It aims to preserve the progress made in combating the pandemic in Morocco and to minimize the risk related to the virus variants.

The government can quickly respond to an emergency situation and adjust its preventive measures based on the epidemiological situation.
