Wydad-Bouly Jr Sambou: “do everything to become Botola’s top scorer”

Bouly Junior Sambou, what does it feel like to be at Wydad

I am very happy that I have joined Wydad Athletic Club. It is, in my opinion, one of Africa’s largest clubs. It’s also an honor to discover a new level of sport. It’s a brand new championship for me.

How is your integration into Wydad’s new club?

My integration was easy. It went smoothly. Personally, I have to admit that I never had any difficulties adapting to any of the clubs I attended. I have always felt at ease in all the clubs. I arrived at Wydad after that and I have to say that they were very welcoming and open to me. Things are going well. Let’s pray it continues like this.

What do you think of Botola’s pace and intensity after these matches?

The Moroccan championship, I believe I can classify it as a high-level event. Every day is a meeting BotolaThey are so intense. The teams provide a spectacle with high-level play. The Botola, I would say, is the highest level.

After 4 days, the WAC is the leader. What are the goals for this season in the league?

We are currently the champions in the championship. We must continue to work to maintain our position. Wydad is still the Moroccan Botola champion. The goal is to keep the title of champion of Morocco at season’s end. We are not going too fast in the African Champions League. We will first try and win our two matches against Rivers United. We remain optimistic for this competition. We will fight to keep the title of African champion.

You lost the CAF Supercup to Berkane. Did it disappoint you?

First, I was very disappointed for the team and secondly, individually, compared to this loss in the CAF Super Cup. We wanted to win this trophy. Personally, I wanted to win my first trophy with Wydad. I was so focused on the Supercup from the moment I signed for this club. But, the gods of football weren’t with us that evening. We didn’t procrastinate despite our disappointment.

“I am convinced that Senegal can win the CHAN”

You arrive in Senegal with the title of top scorer. Are you sure you can re-edit it in Botola

After finishing as the top scorer in last season’s Senegalese championship, I am now at Wydad. It is true that this year, I will face another challenge with the Moroccan championship. But with the support of the group, I think we will all fight together to flank as many goals and become the top scorer in Botola.

Senegal will be in group B during the next CHAN. How do you judge your ex-partners’ adversaries?

Senegal’s chicken of fire is indeed a difficult one. It’s still football. I can attest to the remarkable mentality of the Senegal team that they displayed to win the CHAN qualification. This group will keep this mindset and provide continuity for the competition, I believe. It’s just a matter of adding more conviction to your performance than you did during qualifying. They have to believe in themselves, and be more effective on and off the pitch. But I believe in this team. Despite all the hardships, I see them finishing first in this group B.

I can imagine that you will keep an eye on this competition. Are you confident that Senegal will win the competition despite your absence from it?

Naturally, I will be watching them on TV and supporting them. It is a major continental competition the CHAN. As a Senegalese, it is my duty to watch all the selections made by Senegal in all competitions. We have the players that we need, players who can play anywhere. They just need to have the same mentality they had during qualifying. I believe they will bring the cup back home to Senegal with God’s help.
