Ondangwa records 15 cases of malaria – The Namibian

The Ondangwa Town Council recorded approximately 15 cases of malaria this year.

In that time, there were no deaths.

Ondhila informal settlement was able to record three cases of Malaria, while Oluno had two, Ondiiyala had 4 cases, Extension 4 had 1 case, and Omashaka informal Settlement had 4.

Town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha told The Namibian that the council has started the process of malaria indoor residual spraying, in an effort to combat the mosquito-borne disease.

She said that Malaria is a serious illness that can cause death or severe illness in some cases. Therefore, indoor residual spraying has been implemented to reduce the number of cases.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha encouraged residents to have their homes sprayed, especially the bedrooms because that is where people spend the entire night and when mosquitoes are likely to bite them while they are asleep.

She encouraged residents not to resist the officials spraying their houses.

“If by any chance they feel unsafe or might suspect that the spray men are suspicious, they should immediately report such suspicion to our office or to the police,” said Shitalangaho-Mutikisha.
