The United Kingdom: Joint statement from senior officials meeting on Libya – African Business

High ranking officials from France and Italy, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States met in New York on September 22 to discuss the ongoing Libyan crisis. They expressed their support to Special Representative of Secretary-General Abdoulaye Bathily, as he assumes his mandate to promote political stability and reconciliation between Libyans. They affirmed their full support of UN mediation to create a constitutional base that will allow free, fair and inclusive presidential as well as parliamentary elections in Libya in the shortest time. They also discussed the importance to fulfill Libya’s aspirations for transparent oil revenue management and agreed on a unified executive that would be focused on election preparation. Participants strongly condemned violence and affirmed their support for the full implementation, on October 23, 2020, of the ceasefire agreement.
