AFRICA/MALAWI – Jubilee year of the Pontifical Mission Societies: conveying the message through music

AFRICA/MALAWI Jubilee Year of the Pontifical Mission Societies – Music conveying the message

Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides). – To mark missionary October, and the Sunday dedicated for the missions, the Pontifical Mission Societies of Malawi presented two songs in English and Chichewa last Sunday. The songs were composed by four siblings of the same family, the Mbewe Family. The first performance was on Luntha TV, a national Catholic TV channel.
The performance of the music is part of preparations of the National Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Malawi for the World Mission Day (October 23) and the Mission Month (October 2022) in the larger context of the anniversaries of the year (see Fides 3/5/2022).
The National Direction supported and encouraged the young composers of the songs. They used their talents to spread the message about the Jubilee Year to the masses and to convey its meaning in a musical manner. The young artists, who are part of a small Christian community in the Chigwirizano Squatter Region of the Holy Rosary Parish Likuni in Lilongwe, live in rural settings. The songs were recorded in an amateur studio at home. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 9/8/2022)
