Mass blazes hit northern Morocco amid heatwave – The North Africa Post

Morocco is responding to a wave blaze in its northern forests. This is all happening amid a national heatwave which further complicates firefighters’ job.

Particularly in Larach region, wildfires threatened inhabited areas. The highway was closed as firefighters tried to extinguish them.

Morocco also mobilized its military to put out the flames, which was being fueled by dry hot winds from the east.

The wildfires have destroyed farms and cattle, as well as hives within the agricultural regions of Ouazzane and Taza.

Morocco’s fire-fighting capabilities were boosted last month by the receipt of three new Canadair water bombarders. This brings total fire extinguishing aircrafts in Morocco to 8.
