Nakuru digitizes community health sector – Kenya News Agency

The County government of Nakuru has rolled out the use of Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS) aimed at enhancing primary health-care service delivery at the households’ level.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui explained that the system was developed from the Community Health digitization efforts contained within the National Community Health Strategy 2020-2025. The system was being supported through Amref Health Africa by Global Community Fund.

Kinyanjui voiced his government’s commitment in providing an enabling environment for the digitization process saying relevant policy and legislative frameworks to operationalize the system were already in place.

He stated that the eCHIS system aims to digitize information on community health services throughout the County and will revolutionize primary healthcare service delivery to the lowest unit, which is the household.

He explained that Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), who will use the system to register family members, collect data and submit them to their linked health facilities to be used in a sick scenario, will use it.

Ms. Elizabeth Kiptoo from Nakuru County, Director for Public Health, said that eCHIS will reduce inefficiencies in data analysis, reporting and data collection.

She also stated that the new system will allow you to submit Community Health data in real time. This will prevent delays in submitting reports that are critical for quick decision-making.

Ms. Ritah Ochola, County Community Health Strategy Focal person, stated that the trained Community Health team will relay the information to all County CHVs. This will help in achieving the National Strategy for Community Health Digitization and will also strengthen the health data management systems in the country.

Ms. Jane Koech is a senior program officer at the Ministry of Health, Division of Community Health. She stated that her team provided Technical Assistance to the County Team during the five-day training of 55 Community Health Strategy Focal Persons, Community Health Extension Workers and Community Health Assistants. She added that they will continue to collaborate until the digitization process is successful.
