Sh15 million bridge launched in Likii – Kenya News Agency

It’s a sigh of relief for Likii residents after the launch of a Sh15 million bridge that will enable them to connect Nanyuki and Nturukuma locations at ease.

The bridge commonly known as Mountex Bridge was built in Nturukuma’s Likii sublocation.

It was built by the government through the National Government Affirmative Act Fund (NGAAF).

Residents on both sides of the bridge have lamented for years the inaccessibility. In the past, residents had used a piece wood to connect the two Ridges. This made it dangerous for school-going children, especially during the rainy season.

Mohammed Deddy (Laikipia East member of Parliament) spoke at the launch. He stated that the bridge would benefit residents for the long-term.

“This is a legacy project; that will be used by many generations to come. The government believes in serving the people,” said Deddy.

Ms Jenifer Nyambura (the contractor) said that working with residents allowed the project to be implemented in four months.

Kairu Nidiritu, a resident, stated that they had suffered long-term but that Mountex Bridge has made their life easier.

“Women and students had suffered before the construction of the bridge. Residents used every means to swim to the other side of the river. It was a disaster during the rainy season,” revealed Ndiritu.

He added that it was a dream come to life because they had created a WhatsApp group to raise funds before the legislator arrived.

The bushy road linking both areas was also made accessible and was paved with murram.
