Morocco’s Health Ministry has recommended a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine for senior citizens and for individuals suffering from chronic diseases to lower their risk of contracting the virus.
The updated recommendation is part a revised national vaccination strategy to fight the ongoing pandemic. This comes as the country has experienced an increase in daily COVID numbers in the last few weeks.
The Health Ministry, after reviewing a set of recommendations made by Morocco’s scientific community, has called on people aged over 60 and individuals with health conditions who are older that 18 to take the fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose six months after their third shot, the ministry said in a statement.
Individuals who have recently been infected with the virus should receive a second booster four weeks after being tested negative.
The ministry called citizens to adopt the new recommendations to help the country consolidate its gains in fighting the pandemic. It explained that the measure was recommended due to recent increases in COVID number across Morocco.
The Ministry urged citizens to continue to observe preventive measures, such as proper use of masks during gatherings and closed public spaces, hand washing, and physical distancing, particularly Eid Al-Adha, in order to maintain a safe environment for all and avoid an epidemiological relapse.
