FIBA W.Cup qualifiers: Rwanda’s winless run continues after loss to SouthSudan

RWANDA 63-73 South Sudan

After a 63 to 73 loss to South Sudan, the national basketball team has been without a win at the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

The Rwandan team won the game, its first in the second window. This leaves them at the bottom of Group A, having not won one of the three games in the first window.

Cheikh Sarr’s boys remained close behind the physical South Sudanese throughout the game, with the exception of the third quarter when it reached level 51-51.

One thing that stood out in the game was Rwanda’s inability convert three point shots. The Rwandan team tried 37 times to make the shot, but only 9 of them succeeded.

Three point throws, on the other hand were the most important for the South Sudanese. They converted 14 of the 38 attempts they made.

Cheikh Sarr expressed his disappointment at the loss and lamented the inability of his team to respond to South Sudanese’s physicality during a post-match press conference.

He also complained about referees, saying that they did not balance the game and did not award fouls to his players when they were hit by their opponents.

Rwanda’s actions at BK Arena against Cameroon on Saturday are resolute. Rwanda is trying to win its first match and improve its chances of making it to the next round of Group B.
