New United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Ethiopia presents credentials – African Business

Today, Dr. Aboubacar kampo, UNICEF’s new Representative in Ethiopia, presented a copy of his credentials, to Ambassador Demeke Atnafu Ambulo (Director General of Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia).

The Ambassador welcomed Dr. Aboubacar in Ethiopia and expressed his gratitude for the strong partnership with UNICEF that has helped improve the lives across the country.

“It is a great honour to be here in Ethiopia,” said Dr. Kampo. “We are committed to further strengthen our collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia to uphold the rights of children so that they can achieve their potential and contribute back to their communities in a productive and meaningful way.”

Dr. Kampo, a physician and a public health specialist by trade, is a medical doctor. Kampo has more than 20 years of experience in humanitarian and development settings. He has held senior roles within United Nations Agencies, as well international non-governmental organizations. Dr. Kampo was most recently the Director of Health Programmes for UNICEF Headquarters in New York. He also served as UNICEF Representative in Afghanistan and Cote d’Ivoire. He is Mali national.

The UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office will be led by the new Representative. This is in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia. The Representative will play an important role in ensuring that the UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office fulfills its commitment to children and families. He/she will also focus on innovative approaches to ensure children have access to basic services in complex settings.
