Morocco’s agricultural and fisheries exports rose to an unprecedented 8 billion dollars in 2021, up 20% compared with 2022, the agriculture ministry said.

This was despite the fact that there was not enough rainfall to support cereal production, which dropped 67% from 3.4 million tons to 3.6 million.

The third position is now held by agricultural and fisheries exports, just behind phosphates sales and the automotive sector.

Exports of fruit and vegetables rose 10% to 2.3million tons. According to the ministry, red fruits exports increased 20% to 132k Tons.

Demand on Morocco’s citrus increased notably on the US market while fisheries exports increased 13% in volume and 16% in value, reaching 2.72 billion dollars.

However, as of November, the figures show that Morocco’s imports of foodtuffs equaled its exports. This was largely due to an increasing wheat bill that stood at 2.2 million dollars.
