AMERICA/BRAZIL – Formation and organization of Catechists, support for biblical animation: 2022 Evangelization Camp

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides – The 2022 Evangelization Campaign was promoted by the Brazilian Episcopal Conference, CNBB through the dioceses of Brazil. This campaign aims to update and train Brazilian catechists and support the Teams of pastoral Bible animation in the 19 CNBB regions. It also aims to strengthen the organization of the Brazilian clergy, produce material, and promote the meetings of the National Council of the Laity of Brazil.
The CNBB created the Evangelization Campaign in 1998 to raise awareness among Catholics about their responsibility in supporting the evangelization activities in Brazil. It is held from the Sunday of Christ King to the 3rd Saturday of Advent. The campaign collection will be held this year on December 10th and 11.
According to the CNBB, this 2022 edition’s theme – “Evangelizing: grace, mission that takes place during the encounter” – is part of continuity of the 3rd vocational years that the Church of Brazil celebrates, which runs from November 20, 2022, to November 26, 2023. It is centered on the theme “Vocation. Grace and mission”. The reflection for this Campaign reminds us that evangelization can be described as the vocation and mission of every baptized person, missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. This vocation is gift, commitment, or grace and mission. It is achieved in interpersonal, intercommunity, and intergenerational encounters. The basic text is highlighted by “.
The theme reflects the indications of Pope Francis to build a culture of encounter, expressed in particular in the encyclical “Fratelli Tutti” on friendship and social peace.
“In Advent, the high point of the evangelical campaign, God meets us and renews our hope in a new world. We invite all Christians, and anyone else of good will, to intensify: The encounter with the Word; Christ Bread; the encounters and fellowship with those who are suffering; and the missionary encounter. The General Guidelines for the Evangelizing Action of the Church of Brazil (DGAE, 2019-2023), proposes four pillars of evangelizing action – Word Bread, Charity, Missionary Action, and the encounter with brothers and sisters who suffer. Catholic Christians should also realize that there is no evangelization if there is not an interpersonal encounter.
45% of the collection is left in the diocese for the support of missionary, evangelizing or pastoral action of the local Church. 20% goes to the regional CNBB for support of regional evangelization structures. The remaining 35% goes directly to the national CNBB in order to ensure that there are evangelization initiatives and structures throughout Brazil, especially in the most disadvantaged parts.
