AFRICA/MALI: The Episcopal Conference: “We don’t have any news about Fr. Hans-Joachim Lohre”

Bamako, Agenzia Fides – “At present we have no additional news or contacts regarding the kidnappers from Fr. Hans-Joachim Lohre was informed by sources from the Mali Bishops Conference about the kidnapping and disappearance of Fr. Hans-Joachim Lohre is the white father German nationality who vanished on Sunday, November 20, (see Fides 22, 22/11/2022).
According to sources, “At the moment, only Cardinal Jean Zerbo’s statement, Archbishop of Bamako,” has been released. In which he expresses his closeness to the missionary, he said.” Cardinal Zerbo stated in his communication of November 23 that “as we write these lines, there is still no news of Fr. Hans Joachim”. “We send our deepest condolences to his family in Germany and pray for their return. Cardinal Zerbo clarifies the circumstances surrounding Father Hans-Joachim’s disappearance. He was due to celebrate Sunday mass at Kalaban-Coura (on right bank of Bamako), at 8:30 AM. The celebration was not attended by the missionary. His confreres noticed his absence on Sunday afternoon. His gray Peugeot Partner car, a Peugeot Peugeot Partner, had been parked in front the house since morning. The confreres suspected a kidnapping. They contacted the police in the 5th district.” The Cardinal Archbishop of Bamako concludes by praying for the release of the missionary and all those held hostage. (L.M.)
