Maldives and Malawi establish diplomatic relations – African Business

The Republic of Maldives (Republic of Malawi) and the Republic of Malawi established diplomatic relations on Saturday 24 September 2022.

The Joint Communiqué formalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, and on behalf of the Government of Malawi by Her Excellency Nancy Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made it a priority to cultivate meaningful partnerships with friend countries.

The establishment of diplomatic relations will open up new opportunities for Malawi and Maldives to work together bilaterally as well as multilaterally to achieve common goals in areas mutually beneficial.

The Republic of Malawi, a landlocked country located in southeastern Africa, has a population of 18.63 million.

The Republic of Malawi is 182nd country to establish diplomatic relationships with the Maldives.
