Morocco called for further international cooperation in the fight against terrorist acts. The ISIS core and other terror groups are rebuilding and posing grave threats to global stability and peace.

In his opening remarks to the 12th Ministerial Meeting (GCTF) held Sept 21 in New York under the Morocco-Canada chairship, Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Foreign Minister, stressed the importance multilateralism in fighting terror groups.

The GCTF meeting provides an opportunity for a review of the achievements of the Forum in its first decade under the Moroccan/Canadian Co-chairmanship. Mr. Bourita stated that the priority was to reduce vulnerability to terrorism through prevention and counter extremist propaganda.

This forum will be geared towards strengthening international efforts against terrorism, violent extremism, said the minister, affirming the UN Charter, UN Security Council resolutions, and UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy as the basis for the GCTF’s actions.

The Forum has done a remarkable job in tackling foreign terrorist fighters, border security and terror financing, according to the Moroccan FM.

Since 2016, Morocco has been co-chairing the GCTF, which was established in 2011. It is made up of 30 members (29 nations + the European Union), and works closely with many international, sub-regional, and regional organizations, including UN.

It is an informal, non-political, multilateral counterterrorism platform. Its purpose is to reduce the vulnerability of people around the world to terrorist acts.
The Forum brings together practitioners and policymakers from all over the globe to share their experiences and expertise and to create practical, public tools and strategies to counter the growing terrorist threat.
