All set for U-18 Africa basketball quarter finals

From August 10 to 11, eight teams will compete in the U-18 African Championship quarterfinals.

Group phase action at the continental showpiece that ended on August 8, saw Rwanda’s U-18 team eliminated.

 

Algeria won their first three Group A games, beating Benin 85-50. This victory secured a place for the North African side in the last eight.

 

Despite being defeated, Benin reached the knockout stages thanks to the four-team Group-A lineup. This was after Tanzania’s last-minute withdrawal.

 

Senegal, who beat Madagascar 70-62 to remain in Group A, maintained their perfect record in all three games.

The Senegalese improved to 3-0 and also finished the Group Phase as only team that did not lose in the nine-nation tournament.

Senegal won their group; Madagascar (2-1), finished second behind Algeria and Benin.

Angola defeated Rwanda (66-55), Monday’s Group B winner, to improve to 2-2. Meanwhile, Mali, the reigning African champion, cruised to a comfortable 74-39 win against Guinea.

Mali won Group B with a score of 3-1. Egypt finished second with a record of 3-1, but they were relegated due to a head to head loss to Mali.

Angola and Guinea finished at 2-2, but Angola was third thanks to a head-tohead win over Angola.

Quarter final pairings

The U18 African Championship Quarter Final will be played over two consecutive days.

On Wednesday, August 10, Mali faces Benin, while Guinea faces Madagascar.

Thursday, August 11, Algeria will face Egypt and Angola will face Senegal.
