President Kenyatta Holds Talks with Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister – African Business

Today, President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister. He paid him a courtesy visit at State House in Nairobi.

President Kenyatta met with Mr. Parrilla to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including the safe return of the Cuban doctors kidnapped by Al Shabaab in 2019 in Kenya.

President Kenyatta assured of the Kenya Government’s commitment to ensuring the release of the Cuban doctors held captive in Somalia.

The meeting was attended by the Head of State, Minister Parrilla and the Ambassador to Cuba.

Appreciating Cuba’s support in the training of Kenyan doctors, President Kenyatta reiterated that Kenya valued its cooperation with the Caribbean nation.

“I just want to say that we value your support and reiterate that Cuba has a true friend in Kenya. We will always stand in solidarity with you in whatever fora at the multilateral level,” President Kenyatta said.

For his part, the Cuban Foreign Ministry thanked President Kenyatta and expressed his gratitude for his commitment in enhancing bilateral relations between their two countries.

Juan Manuel Rodriguez Vazquez was accompanying Mr. Parrilla. Rodriguez Vazquez is the Cuban Ambassador to Kenya.

He delivered to President Kenyatta a special message from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Present were Dr. Joseph Kinyua as Head of Public Service, Raychelle Omamo as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Aman as Chief Administrative Secretary, and Patrick Nzusi, the Director in-charge for the Americas and Caribbean Directorate.
