ASIA/MONGOLIA – Msgr. Marengo: “Assist faithful on their journey by the light of Christ”

Ulaanbaatar – (Agenzia Fides). “We must accompany faithful towards a dimension greater depth: this pastoral challenge is for the Church in Mongolia in the near future.” Msgr. Msgr. This view was affirmed during the recent Pastoral Week. It was organized to mark the 30th anniversary the missionary life of Mongolian Church. The Church, which was established in 1992 after the dissolution Soviet Union, has 2 priests, 22 missionaries from abroad, and 35 nuns. This year also marks 30 years since the establishment diplomatic relations between Mongolian and Holy See. “For this double aniversary – the Prelate reported – we have prepared an meeting on the path for synodality in which we reflected upon the future prospects of the Church.”
Msgr. Marengo says: “Looking back over the first 30 years of presence Catholic Church in Mongolia, one thing unites these three decades of presence is certain the love for Christ and his Gospel. This love now takes root here and in the hearts this people.” The newly appointed Cardinal said that the new Cardinal will be looking at the challenges ahead and would suggest that it is time to think deeper about the life of faith. This must be able nourish itself with content that is relevant to reality and practice that inspires and reflects them. The criteria to be followed, aside from the formation and deepening the faith received, Bishop Marengo states, are those of communion. This is to say that each step and every choice must be lived with a spirit that fosters fraternity and preserves unity within the Catholic community as well as in relations outside of it. The criteria of proclamation, which is to be the Church that goes forth, continue the evangelizing mission, and to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to all creatures. The Prefect says that the main activity in missionary ministry is still social engagement. “The great investment of our first years – this is the activity human promotion, attention to the needy with various projects. Education, health, and care of abandoned children are all topics. Caritas Mongolia can also be of assistance. Each parish then develops its projects. These include assistance for agriculture, aid for women and scholarships. Bishop Marengo stresses that the priority is to promote announcement and pastoral care
That they are sensitive to the Mongolian culture and its infinite nuances and that they are aware of their specificities. It means being with each brother or sister as they journey, and, when touched by Grace, begin to re-read their collective and personal history in the light the Gospel.
